Keep Calm & Carry on During Show Day

How do you stay calm on show day? It’s the craziest day ever! You have prepared FOREVER for this day (okay, it seems like forever at least)! Your adrenaline is pumping on overload the entire day, and everyone else around you is feeling out of sorts too! You are in a world of insanity for the day, and there you are stuck in the middle of it, needing to act like you are on top of your game. What’s a girl to do?

If you thought you needed to be mentally tough for those hard core workouts you’ve been doing, or tough in order to stick to your crazy, tight nutrition….well, this day ups the ante on mental toughness, for sure! On this day you find out that your prep wasn’t just getting your body ready, but your mind ready too! You are ready – physically and mentally! Don’t let the mania of the day turn on you. Here are a few tips on how to keep calm and carry on the day of the show.

  1. Throughout the day concentrate on your “why”. If you focus on why you decided to compete and all the positive things competing does for you, you will be less likely to get caught up in all the drama the day can hold. It’s hard, but don’t look around at the competition. Remember, YOU are your own competition. No matter what the judges, or anyone else thinks about how you size up with the other competitors, your why should be what matters at the end of the day.
  2. Offer extra grace and be extra graceful on show day. Everyone seems to be on pins and needles, they are usually sleep deprived, and probably HANGRY! Everyone needs a little extra grace the day of the competition. It helps you stay calm if you make an effort to not only extend extra grace, but to be extra graceful that day as well. Give off good energy, and you will receive good energy in return.  If we start to feel a little offended by someone at a show, the Elite Coaching Team goes by the motto “kill them with kindness”. At the end of the day you will be happier with your experience if you look back on it knowing you did the nice thing!
  3. This day should be all about YOU! You have worked hard, and you deserve to be “Queen for the Day”. Take advantage! Do what relaxes you…listen to your favorite music while waiting, if that makes you happy. Read if that is what you enjoy. Meet a new friend if you are a social bug! Chat with your teammates and other competitors, you know you have a lot in common! Another motto of the Elite Coaching team is “no judgement”. Don’t worry about offending someone if you are doing what makes you smile that day; you deserve to smile! If you’re not sure what will make you happy that day, the most certain way to create happiness is to give to someone else. There are always girls who need help backstage. There is always someone who needs help getting their suit/hair/makeup right, someone to watch them pose, or someone to just help them calm down. Be that person. It always feels good to be a giver. It gets your mind off yourself and your nerves too!

Whatever you do, don’t do it alone! Having a team for support and guidance is a must when you compete. The Elite Coaching Team is known for being a team of compassion, camaraderie, but a team that is competitive in a fun way! We’d love to have you join us! Contact us at thetwins@twinfitness.com.
